Car history: |
This original, numbers matching (VIN/engine/M21 4-speed transmission) chrome-bumper Corvette LT-1 is among the rarest of its breed. Only 1287 LT-1 Corvettes were produced in 1970, likely due to its $447.60 option charge. The LT-1 is considered one of Duntov's masterpieces, achieving his desire for a high-output, lightweight engine that outperformed the big blocks in both handling and quarter-mile times. If you are seeking a C3 Shark, this is the ultimate. 1970 was the highlight year for the LT-1, with a stout 370 horsepower output and minimal emissions equipment; by 1971 and 1972, the final years of the LT-1 engine, power was down considerably. You will note by the pictures that this example has been extremely well cared for and respected all of its life. It is obvious by condition that this Corvette has never been in the hands of a wayward teenager. The engine is numbers-matching with a code of: 0S408532 V0225CTU, and I guarantee the transmission is also numbers matching with the last digits of the VIN correctly appearing vertically on the passenger-side of the case. As best I can tell, the car is equipped with the following options: RPO A31 Electric power windows ($63.20) RPO G81 Positraction rear axle, all ratios ($12.65) RPO J50 Power brakes ($47.40) RPO LT1 350-cid 370-hp V-8 ($447.60) RPO M21 Four-speed close-ratio manual transmission (n/c) RPO U69 AM-FM radio ($172.75) The car appears to have a tank sticker in place, but I cannot be certain it is there or its condition. When viewing the gas tank from the filler and gently pulling back the overflow gasket, you can clearly see something about the size and shape of the tank sticker located on the driver's side forward part of the tank. I did not remove the tank to verify the sticker, but I believe it's there and ready for preservation should you choose to perform an NCRS-type restoration on the car. Which brings us to the condition of the car. It is absolutely amazing, in that it is so very original and well-preserved. The car has definitely been repainted in its original color once, and the paint is currently in very nice to excellent condition - it shines througout and looks great. I'm guessing that when the paint work was done the engine may have been overhauled, as it has also been repainted the correct Chevy organge color. The interior is stock, down to the working power windows and working AM/FM radio. Even the carpet is original. The door panels are in great shape also, and the dash is very nice. The gauges all work, with the exception that the speedo needle is broken and the clock has lost its tick. The odo works fine, and all gauges are in excellent physical condition. The seats are original, and in need of reupholstery if you are seeking a show car, but fine if you intend to drive as is. The T-tops are in nice condition with no cracks, and remove easily and lock back in place easily. The engine fires right up, and is super strong. There is no smoke or nasty sounds from this jewel - it's all there. The car drives well, also. The fiber optics work, as do the lights. The headlights and wiper door come up correctly and quickly under vacuum, and close equally well. The frame is truly amazing on this car - all there with nothing but very slight surface rust here and there. The frame is completely solid - no rot even in common areas in front of the rear wheel wells. There are very few original LT-1 Corvettes around, and 1970 is the best year for the marque. |
